Patrick M. Finnegan, CFA, CPA, to Lead CFA Institute
Centre Accounting Policy Efforts
New York, July 17, 2008
– The CFA Institute Centre for Financial Market Integrity
announced today that Patrick M. Finnegan, CFA, CPA, has joined the
organization as its accounting policy director.
Finnegan will lead the team responsible for tracking all financial
reporting issues, including coordinating the efforts of the Corporate
Disclosure Policy Council, a key committee of CFA Institute volunteers
that reviews and comments on financial reporting policy initiatives
worldwide. He will serve as spokesperson for the CFA Institute Centre to
key financial reporting standard setters including the IASB, FASB, and
the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and will conduct outreach to
other professional organizations and the media to discuss and promote
financial reporting policies.
“Many important initiatives are underway that will shape how financial
accounting information will be reported in the years to come, and the CFA
Institute Centre is committed to providing high quality and informed
input to the decision making process,” said Jeff Diermeier, CFA,
president and CEO of CFA Institute. “As standard setters face complex
issues in their quest to establish a single set of high quality global
accounting standards, Pat’s extensive, well-balanced background as a
user, regulator, and auditor will further strengthen the CFA Institute
Centre’s ability to advance standards of financial reporting that meet
the needs of investors.”
Most recently, Finnegan served as managing director in Moody’s Investors
Service Corporate Finance Group, and earlier as a senior analyst in
Moody’s Financial Institutions Group primarily responsible for publishing
research, responding to investors and press, and managing a staff of 20
professionals.
Previously, he worked for Deloitte & Touche as a partner providing
audit services primarily for insurance companies and conducting financial
due-diligence services for private equity firms. Finnegan also worked for
the American Institute of CPAs as a technical manager, for the SEC as a
staff accountant, and for Deloitte Haskins & Sells as a senior
accountant.
Finnegan earned a BS in accounting from Georgetown University. A member
of the New York Society of Security Analysts, he is a Certified Public
Accountant (CPA) and earned the CFA charter in 1998.
