CIPM Member Newsletter
Dear CIPM Association Member,
We are pleased to inform you that, with the addition of newly credentialed investment performance professionals last month, the CIPM Association now has 263 members. Please use the membership directory you received in the mail as a resource for networking with other practitioners who, like you, have demonstrated their commitment to excellence by earning the right to use the CIPM designation. Contact us if you didn’t receive your copy.
CIPM Program Growth
In addition, as the chart below shows, participation in the CIPM program continues to advance. A total of 625 candidates, including 430 at the Principles level and 195 at the Expert level, are currently enrolled for the March–April exams.
A recent survey of new candidates indicates that many first learned about the CIPM program in the workplace. So, we encourage you to talk about the program — word of mouth is the best advertising!
CIPM Association Member Benefits
We would like to inform you of certain benefits available to you as a member of the CIPM Association:
- You should be receiving CFA Magazine, a bimonthly publication, at your preferred mailing address. Watch for a column especially for CIPM certificate holders and candidates in future issues.
- The Journal of Performance Measurement, published by the Spaulding Group, offers CIPM certificate holders a 30 percent discount on subscriptions. This generous offer reduces the cost of a one-year subscription to US$227.50 for U.S. residents and US$245.00 for non-U.S. residents. To receive this benefit, contact the Spaulding Group directly by e-mailing Susan Kneller.
- As a CIPM Association member, you are eligible to receive the CFA Institute Financial NewsBrief, a daily e-mail summary of the top international financial news.
- You are also eligible for member pricing for educational events sponsored by CFA Institute.
- The CIPM Association would like to extend to you complimentary access to CFA Institute webcasts and podcasts through 31 December 2008. (After that time, member pricing will be in effect.)
- To access your webcast choices, enter your username and password in the Member/Candidate Login area. Prices will be displayed for informational purposes, but until this offer expires, you should not be asked to enter any payment information to view the sessions. If you have lost your password or encounter any other technical difficulties, visit the Lost Password page.
Mandatory Continuing Education (MCE)
If you earned the right to use the CIPM designation in 2007, be aware that the three-year period in which you must meet the continuing education requirement started 1 January 2008. For further information, visit Mandatory Continuing Education.
Visit the GIPS Website, Receive the GIPS e-Newsletter
The GIPS website is loaded with valuable resources for performance measurement professionals. Explore news, information, and FAQs about the Global Investment Performance Standards, country sponsors, relevant events, and volunteer opportunities.
On the News page of the GIPS website, you will find archived copies of the GIPS e-Newsletter, and you may subscribe to receive future issues.
Upcoming Events
The CIPM program participates in numerous industry conferences and events. In some cases, the conference organizers offer discounts to CIPM candidates and certificate holders.
CIPM Association Dues and Professional Conduct Statement (PCS)
In May, CIPM Association members will be invoiced for membership dues for the period 1 July 2008–30 June 2009. The annual dues are US$200.00. (For CFA Institute members, the annual CIPM Association dues are US$75.00.) Together with the invoice, you will receive a Professional Conduct Statement to complete. This annual self-reporting statement is similar to the one you submitted upon enrolling as a candidate in the CIPM program.
Volunteer Opportunities
We encourage you to participate in the CIPM program as a volunteer or consultant in one of three significant areas:
- Writing questions for the exams
- Reviewing new additions to the curriculum
- Participating in the standard-setting process
To learn more about these opportunities, visit the Member Resources section of the CIPM program area of the website.
Practice Analysis Needs Your Help
In late April, look for an e-mail invitation to participate in a practice analysis in the field of performance evaluation and presentation. We would greatly appreciate your participation because your responses will help us align the CIPM curriculum and exams with the responsibilities of investment performance practitioners. More information will be posted on our website in the coming weeks.
To learn more about a practice analysis, read the article in the March/April 2008 issue of CFA Magazine entitled “Who Determines CFA Program Content? You Do!” Although this article pertains to the practice analysis performed for the CFA Program, it will give you an understanding of how important your participation is in this critical process.
In Closing
Be sure to refer to the Member Resources section of the CIPM area of the website for answers to your questions about CIPM Association membership. We welcome at any time your feedback about your experience as a candidate and CIPM Association member. Let us know what we can do for you.
Kind regards,
Philip Lawton, CFA, CIPM
Head, CIPM Program
