Volunteer Opportunities
for CIPM certificate holders
We encourage CIPM certificate holders to participate in the CIPM program as a volunteer or consultant in one of three significant areas:
- Reviewing new additions to the curriculum
- Writing questions for the exams
- Participating in the standard-setting process
We are seeking volunteers and consultants who are:
- Proficient in one or more areas to be covered by the curriculum and the examinations
- Free from conflicts of interest
- Committed to producing work of highest quality
- Able to meet deadlines reliably
Curriculum Review
The staff of the CIPM program at CFA Institute reviews and
updates the curriculum on an ongoing basis. Curriculum reviewers will
critique suggested readings and recommend other readings which might be
appropriate for this global distance learning program. In addition to
materials published by CFA Institute, potential readings will be selected
from trade books, textbooks, and journals. Curriculum reviewers serve on
a volunteer basis and agree not to participate in creating or presenting
preparatory course materials during their tenure and for one year
following their service to CFA Institute in this capacity.
Question Writing
Question writers are provided with specific multiple choice
and/or item set assignments based on several readings in one or more of
the three major topic areas in the CIPM program. Question writers
are trained, compensated, and evaluated, and agree not to participate in
creating or presenting preparatory course materials during their tenure
and for one year following their service to CFA Institute in this
capacity. Question writers are not eligible to serve concurrently as
examination review panelists for standard setting.
Setting Standards
Standard setting is a rigorous, systematic process that is widely
employed in professional credentialing programs, and the Exam Review
Panels’ recommendations are a key factor in determining the minimum
passing score (MPS) for the CIPM exams. Panelists receive a primer
packet in advance of the one-day standard setting workshops conducted by
independent test and measurement specialists in the Washington, DC, area
each May and November. Members of the Exam Review Panels serve on a
volunteer basis and agree not to participate in creating or presenting
preparatory course materials during their tenure and for three years
following their service to CFA Institute in this capacity.
