Letter from the Chair
Research that is rigorous yet relevant for the investment practitioner. Some might say that is like trying to have your cake and eat it too. But the Research Foundation of CFA Institute strives for no less.
Since 1965, the Research Foundation has promoted the development and dissemination of such research because timely, unbiased, investment management research can make all the difference in investment performance. Recent efforts have addressed a wide array of topics relevant for investment practitioners ranging from private wealth management to quantitative tools for portfolio management.
During 2008, the Research Foundation continued to fund and publish new research, support the creation of literature reviews, sponsor workshops and seminars, and deliver online webcasts and audiocasts. Our recent accomplishments have included the following.
Conferences and Webcasts
- Co-sponsoring a conference with Boston University and the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and subsequently publishing The Future of Life Cycle Saving and Investing.
- Hosting the annual Research for the Practitioner Workshop in Orlando, Florida, on 26 April 2009.
- Continuing our partnership with the Batten Institute of the Darden School at the University of Virginia to support the annual Emerging Markets Conference.
- Creating numerous archived webcasts from our live events.
Monographs and Literature Reviews
- Posting new online literature reviews in the area of behavioral finance.
- Publishing new research monographs from leading researchers, including Challenges in Quantitative Equity Management and The Future of Life-Cycle Saving and Investing.
11 September Fund
- Administering the CFA Institute 11 September Memorial Scholarship Fund (the Research Foundation worked with the staff of CFA Institute to establish the CFA Institute 11 September Memorial Scholarship Fund in the fall of 2001).
In the coming year, the Research Foundation plans to continue to deliver relevant and rigorous research geared to our global practitioner audience. For more information on our existing and upcoming efforts, please visit http://www.cfainstitute.org/foundation/index.html.
