Many young finance professionals are NOT job ready. This is a growing problem, leading to frustration for both employers and employees.
From the employers’ perspective, this alarming situation is due to a combination of poor technical skills, lack of soft skills, and inadequate business awareness. We need to have a frank conversation about what these skills gaps are. More important, we must think about practical solutions in the Indian context so that new hires can hit the ground running and find fulfillment in their careers, and employers can assure themselves of a quality resource.

About the Speaker(s)
Binod Shankar has had a long and interesting career. He started off in industrial banking before moving to audit with KPMG, Andersen, and EY. He quit corporate life when he was an executive director with an investment bank and he co-founded what became the largest CFA prep-provider in the Middle East, a business he sold recently to Kaplan Inc. He’s a trainer, mentor, platform speaker, frequent guest on CNBC Arabia, and an angel investor. He is also an endurance athlete, specializing in high altitude mountaineering and long-distance cycling. He has summited 12 mountains, including six 5,000+ meter peaks. Mr. Shankar is a Chartered Accountant, a CFA charterholder and a qualified executive coach from the UK.
Biharilal Deora is a director at Abakkus Asset Manager LLP, an India-focused asset management company. His investment expertise spans a broad array of asset classes. Prior to joining Abakkus, Mr. Deora was managing corporate, family office, and university clients. He began his career as a financial analyst at leading financial services firms, such as Credit Suisse and Fidelity Investments. Mr. Deora holds a master’s degree in commerce from Veer Narmad South Gujarat University.
He is a top-ranking chartered accountant and a certified financial planner. Mr. Deora serves as a director on the board of CFA Society India and is a visiting faculty member for advanced finance programs.
