CFA Institute appoints two new Managing Directors to Leadership Team
CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals, announces two new appointments to the Leadership Team. Paul Andrews will assume the role of Managing Director of Research, Advocacy and Standards, effective 1 March 2021, and will be based in Washington, DC. Barbara Petitt, Ph.D., CFA, will assume the role of Managing Director of Professional Learning, effective 1 February 2021, based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Paul Andrews and Barbara Petitt will report to Margaret Franklin, CFA, President and CEO of CFA Institute.
Paul Andrews is currently Secretary General of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and holds 25 years of experience in leadership positions at the forefront of national and international financial regulation. In his new role, he will oversee the strategic direction and leadership of the Research, Advocacy and Standards function to position CFA Institute as an innovator and thought leader in investment management. Paul’s deep expertise in the regulatory environment -- working with government agencies, businesses, international regulators and other organizations -- will also enable CFA Institute to promote investor protection, best practices, standards, and education in the investment management industry.
Barbara Petitt will oversee the deployment of the organization’s Professional Learning vision and strategy, including the offering of high-quality, practitioner-relevant educational content on digital platforms that address the development needs of investment professionals. She is committed to continue providing gold-standard quality resources to help members sharpen their professional knowledge, skills, and competencies.

Prior to his role at IOSCO, Paul served as Vice President and Managing Director, International Affairs, of FINRA, a government-authorized not-for-profit organization that oversees U.S. broker-dealers. Previously, he also was Senior Managing Director, Business Operations – Europe, at Nasdaq Europe and Vice President, International Strategic Development at the Nasdaq Stock Market and Chief of Staff at NASD. Paul Andrews began his career as a law associate in the US, followed by a role as senior special counsel at the US Securities and Exchanges Commission. Paul has also held three non-executive directorships during his career. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Villanova University and a Juris Doctorate in Law from the Catholic University School of Law.
Barbara is currently Senior Head, Curriculum and Learning Experience at CFA Institute. Prior to this role, Barbara was Managing Editor of the Financial Analysts Journal, the flagship publication of CFA Institute with the mission to advance the knowledge and understanding of the practice of investment management through the publication of peer-reviewed, practitioner-relevant research. Barbara worked in consulting and held faculty positions in higher education in the United States, France, and the United Kingdom. She also served as Director of Online Studies at Laureate Online Education. Her expertise is in designing, developing, and delivering educational products and services that serve corporate clients’ and adult learners’ needs. Barbara holds the CFA charter and a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Grenoble Alpes and a Masters in Management from EDHEC Business School.
