Two Additional CFA Institute Programs Accredited by IIROC for Fulfillment of Continuing Education Requirements
CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals, today shares that two additional programs are now recognized by the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) as fulfilling key continuing education requirements for IIROC-regulated investment professionals in Canada. IIROC will now grant credits for participation in the Certificate in ESG Investing and the Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM®) Program, in addition to the flagship CFA® Program that is recognized as also satisfying key proficiency requirements for licensing.
These programs offer distinct benefits, taking into consideration the fast-evolving investment management landscape. IIROC’s recognition showcases regulatory acknowledgement of the importance of deep professionalism, excellence, and ethics of investment professionals.
“Investment professionals are facing a period of rapid change as interest in ESG-focused investment products continues to soar and expertise in ESG analysis is in demand, both by the industry and the clients they serve. Developing a fundamental knowledge of the ESG landscape and understanding how it intersects with the work of investing and portfolio management is an absolute requirement for individuals who are committed to best serving their clients’ needs and meeting their expectations as it relates to ESG considerations. The CFA Institute Certificate in ESG Investing is the latest compliment in our suite of learning programs to make these efforts a reality,” commented Michael Thom, CFA, Managing Director, CFA Societies Canada.
“At CFA Institute, we’re proud to offer meaningful professional development programs that meet the needs of the modern investment professional,” said Carole Crawford, CFA, Managing Director, Americas Region at CFA Institute. “We are grateful for our continued relationship with IIROC and are optimistic this will signal to the market the importance of regulator support of upholding professional development.”
Distinct benefits of the programs include:
- Certificate in ESG Investing: The Certificate in ESG Investing is a global qualification that aims to strengthen market integrity by delivering the benchmark knowledge and skills required by investment professionals to integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors into the investment process. It is designed to meet the needs of practitioners in investment roles who want to learn how to analyze and integrate material ESG factors into their investment analysis practice and client recommendations.
- CFA Program: Globally recognized as one of the highest distinctions in the investment management profession, enrolling in the CFA Program and earning the CFA charter prepares individuals for a variety of career paths in the investment industry. The CFA designation is valued by employers in every sector of the global finance industry including portfolio management, investment analysis, wealth management and consulting.
- CIPM Program: The Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM®) Program leverages the expertise of CFA Institute to deliver practice-based approaches and develop skills for effective investment performance evaluation and investment manager selection.
The recognition by IIROC is currently in effect as of 1 January 2022 for CE cycle 9, running until December 31, 2023.
