As the Investment Lead at a family office, Wee Li Mian, ACS, ACG, CFA, has broad responsibilities from analyzing global markets to conducting fund due diligence. His charter gave him the knowledge depth needed to succeed. Watch Li Mian’s story.

I was introduced to the CFA® Program by my lecturer during my early days as an undergrad in Australia. He himself is a CFA® Charterholder, and of course modeled the curriculum based on the CFA Program.  I am Wee Li Mian, an Investment Lead at Woods Capital, and I am a CFA® Charterholder.

My decision to do the CFA Program stems from my pursuit of intellectual curiosity and deepen my insights of the financial capital markets. My company was very supportive of my decision to partake in the CFA Program. Together with supportive colleagues and senior management that provided me a platform and accommodative work arrangement for me to pursue and complete the program.

My role at Woods Capital actually encompasses quite a wide variety of responsibilities and that includes analyzing developed market equities, source, analyze as well as monitor and conduct due diligence of funds and fund managers, as well as on the more expanded role, to educate the family members at the single family office of various topics that includes ESG, digital assets, etc.

The CFA Program provide that depth as well as insight of different asset classes, as well as the deeper understanding of how valuation and portfolio construction as a whole on the framework works. Not just the academic content of the program itself, but the relevance of it on the real-life scenarios that has helped me make understanding better.

The CFA Program, while being a rigorous one, is definitely beneficial. The institution, the community, has been very helpful in providing me right context within the finance and investment space. Building a community of investment professionals, as well as providing me that depth of knowledge that would help me to understand the capital markets much better.
